Animated mnemonic for cholinergic drug

Mnemonic for cholinergic drugs actions

Hello ninja medicos today we talked about the mnemonic for cholinergic drugs, like how to remember the actions for cholinergic drug with an easy mnemonic here is the video you can watch

Cholinergic drugs are those drugs that act on muscarinic receptors and nicotinic receptors causing different actions in the body and affecting the parasympathetic nervous system mainly by acting on cholinoceptors and acetylcholine.
Before we talk about the mnemonic let's briefly discuss the muscarinic receptors and nicotinic receptors.

Muscarinic receptors:

Muscarinic receptors are those receptors that are G couple protein receptors in nature, there are five other subtypes of the muscarinic receptors
M1
M2
M3
M4
and M5.
but the first three muscarinic  receptors are most important now let's talk about the location of these three receptors
M1 receptors are present in GIT parietal cells
M2 receptors are present in the  cardiac cells and smooth muscle cells
M3 receptors are present in exocrine glands, bladder, and smooth muscle cells.
among the five muscarinic receptors the M1, M2, and M5 are the excitatory receptors.

Nicotinic receptors:

nicotinic receptors are the ligand-gated ion channels or ionotropic receptors in nature
nicotinic receptors are located in the following places in the body
CNS
Adrenal medulla
autonomic ganglia
and neuromuscular junctions in skeletal muscle cells

Now let's talk about the mnemonic for cholinergic drugs actions
the mnemonic is
DUMBBELLS can be pronounced as "dam baalz"

D

Shows the diarrhea

U
Shows urination urination

 M
 Shows miosis (pupil contraction)

B
First B Shows bradycardia

B
2nd B Shows bronchospasm

E
Shows excitation of the skeletal muscles and CNS

L
Shows lacrimation

S
Shows salivation

S
 Shows sweating

I hope it helps you please do susbcribe to our channel if you like this mnemonic
have a happy learning! and best luck with your exams.😊
